Learning Italian by Yourself

Free Language Tutorials: Basic Phrases, Vocabulary and Grammar in 9 Languages:

All of the language tutorials on this site are completely free - there is no premium content to buy. I believe education should be free, so this site will always remain free.

Currently, 9 languages are available: English, Russian, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Dutch and Swedish. Recently, I've begun a project to convert the Foreign Service Institute language programs to HTML format. Lists of vocabulary and verb conjugations are available for some Romance, Germanic and Slavic languages, as well as other helpful ideas, resources and links for learning foreign languages.

Italian Tutorials Index: Basic Phrases, Vocabulary and Grammar

Written by James Ross and corrected by Alessandro Rosso (Italian)

Italian is my fifth language, and i learned it from the internet and some books that my friends sent to me.  Rocket Italian is a great program for beginning Italian learners. It includes over 11 hours of audio, vocabulary and verb games, and grammar lessons that are all downloadable from their website. Acquerello Italiano is a great Italian audio magazine for improving listening comprehension and cultural understanding of the Italian-speaking world. If you're interested in buying books to supplement your Italian studies, I've recommended some books from Amazon and Ectaco sells many electronic handheld dictionaries and translators.

Book Recommendations. Language textbooks are rather expensive and generally only include the formal, written language. You will need more exposure to the real spoken language if you want to be become fluent. In addition to the
Acquerello Italiano audio program, as well as a good dictionary, grammar review, and book of verb conjugations, I have used the following books and materials for learning Italian:
